Student dental plan: Toronto Metropolitan University

Policy year is from September 1st 2024 to August 31st 2025 (fall/full-year studies)

January 1st 2025 to August 31st 2025 (winter studies)

Annual Maximum: $750

Basic & Preventive Services:

  • Complete oral exams, full series x-rays and panoramic x-rays are covered once every 3 benefit years.
  • Emergency and specific oral examinations are covered as needed.
  • Bitewing x-rays and recall exams are covered once per benefit year.
  • Cleanings are covered up to 1 unit of polishing plus up to 1 unit of scaling, covered once per recall period.
  • Fluoride is covered twice per benefit year for ages 19 and under.
  • Oral hygiene instruction is covered once per lifetime.
  • Space maintainers are covered as necessary.

Basic Restorative:

  • Amalgam, tooth-coloured and temporary sedative fillings are covered.

Basic Oral Surgery:

  • Extractions of teeth and/or residual roots covered.
  • General anesthesia, deep sedation, and intravenous sedation covered in conjunction with eligible oral surgery only.

Major Services:

  • Bruxism appliances are covered once every 2 benefit years. 
  • Periodontal scaling and/or root planing is covered at 80% for 1 unit per year.
  • Bridges and dentures are covered once every 5 benefit years.
  • Repair or recementing of crowns, onlays and bridge work on natural teeth are covered.

Certain exclusions and limitations may apply. Prior to dental treatment for work that is expected to cost $300 or more, students should submit a treatment plan obtained from their dentist to their insurance company for approval.
